pastel

my friend hc
"hates pastels."
not sure why.

i did these
in new mexico,
most at ghost ranch
where georgia o'keeffe
once lived.

i'm hoping they allow her
to appreciate the medium.

hope she doesn't hate landscapes.

  1. I love your pastels as much as I love that landscape.

  3. Beautiful. Absolutely right on IMO. I'm originally from Las Vegas, NV so I know the desert landscape fairly well and you've captured it perfectly. I wish I could use pastel so effectively, but I've never been able to do this kind of thing.

  7. Dry or oil pastels? I love the red-ochres with the blue, blue skies. I long to be amongst the scrubby bushes, the sandy soil. You have tickled my yearning for such a place.

  9. Aah pastels! My favourite medium. Nothing like painting with sticks of pure pigment. So immediate.

I like you style. Nice and loose. Keep waving paintings like these under your friend's nose and they'll be a pastel convert in no time.

  10. I only hate pastels because I was never able to work with them...but yours, my dear, are wonderful!
