a little book of patterns

battery park city life drawing

it's been so long since i attended the wednesday afternoon
life drawing session mainly because of really bad weather.
it was a treat to get back. i enjoy the short poses best -
one and two minutes to catch a gesture. then fives and tens.
herewith some of each.wonder if i'll ever have time for a face...

not precisely patterns...

inspired by the SEWN class here i've been painting and photographing patterns everywhere i look. today i painted and elaborated on the shadows that fell on my pages as i sat in the blessed shade of a ginko tree at battery park city. when i walked into the sun after a few hours the heat persuaded me to skip the afternoon class, opting instead for the cool confines of the brand new blick on sixth avenue when, on my way home, i received a 30% off coupon by email. japanese screw punch - score!

directional arrows

there's major renovation going on at the metropolitan museum these days and the arrows showing the way to the entrance were culled from the collection....

updated to include context above

pattern

maryann moss of dispatch from l.a. is conducting another unique, inspiring, color filled workshop/circus/celebration this summer. maryann's gift is sharing her joy filled, vivid world and her  genius is allowing us to see everything in our own worlds differently.

this summer it's all about pattern. i'm seeing  and recording pattern everywhere. other participants are a bit further along on the first project - making a pattern book - while i continue to photograph and  draw. as usual (i do, after all, live in the city) lots of what i see is shades of gray but oh what shades!

a poet friend in eugene, orgeon once suggested we collaborate on a project where i would photograph sidewalk cracks and he would write art critiques of them. he was being facetious about art crit but when i look at these i think that the observing and recording makes art of them...

catch up, always catch up

i twisted.

one second and now
my right hip is suffering
10 out of ten pain.
(i'm trying to divorce myself
from my
right hip)

but only when i move.

so i'm not.
moving.
much.
i'm at the computer
playing catch up.

here some rock paintings
from the last few weeks
