picasso sculpture at MoMA

once in a lifetime sounds so hyperbolic.
still, you will likely never again have an opportunity
to experience the depth and breadth of the
sculptural work of pablo picasso in this country
once the picasso sculpture show decamps
the museum of modern art in early february next year.

from his exploratory works early in the 20th century
to his delightful mid-century sheet metal sculptures,
these more than 150 works are a revelation. the show is beautifully mounted  with much of the work free standing, allowing 360 degree views, something a catalog could never achieve.

after my first visit i decided to spend time drawing
each object in the show.  I am not attempting to render the works realistically but to record my own impressions. These are my first drawings, picasso's sheet metal sculptures, 1954-1964
