snowy sunday

it wasn't impressive, this week's snowstorm...
the sanitation department worked tirelessly
and made the streets passable impossibly fast.

it was one of the top five snowstorms, they said
but it didn't feel that way
until i got into central park.

and the iPhone had fun at the metropolitan museum.

bookmaking at the library

a crafty afternoon
at the ny public library.
the iconic one with the lions in front.

esther k. smith
of purgatory pie press
author of some really cool books
on making books
brought papers and rubber stamps,
glue sticks and scissors and
cool stuff from the press for show and tell.

maura madden of crafternoon
arranges these gatherings every so often
with crafty librarian jessica pigza who brought out
a collection of the library's books on bookmaking.

it was fun
getting my hands dirty
and making a mess
on someone else's table.

and playing with the hipstamatic app

the library is wrapped for renovation

i love the simplified palette
of the city after snow

for the access-a-ride van to pick us up,
my mother and me,
for the doctor,
for the tech at the imaging center
the cab on york avenue
and the results...

the flowers at the doctor's office
were fake but lovely.
the afternoon shadows on the carpet
at the imaging center, hypnotic.

my mother fell last week and,
it turns out,
fractured a couple of ribs.
still, at 95 that isn't the worst
of possible outcomes.

now she's waiting to heal.

shooting snow

16 hours of snow
so far
yet it doesn't seem deep
traffic hasn't stopped.
everything continues.

at the flea market

i realized that at $1 each
i wouldn't buy a pile of these photos
but i could have a photo of them...

nothing is irreversible

so much to ponder
and so many great lines
in last night's beginning of the
end of 'lost'
but the face of john locke
personifying evil ... chilling

and in light of jack's words
my money is on the real john locke
coming back from the dead

tom otterness/14th street

the sculpture of tom otterness,
sly, funny, adorable, pointed
can be seen 24/7
around virtually
every corner
of the eighth avenue
subway station at 14th street.
definitely worth the price of
a metrocard
