i've never been a fan of
using photoshop to trick out my
work with lots of
bells and whistles.
purist that i am, i like my photographs
to stand on their merits.

that said, i'm having an awful lot of
fun with lost aussie's digital magic class
which is showing me some of the
the ins of out of photoshop elements.

and, let's face it, scannning a bunch of flowers,
no matter how effective the image,
is kind of gimmicky
to begin with, right?

the script is from a ledger book courtesy of digital magic,
textures from kim klassen and

internet 'life' drawing

the extraordinary japanese site posemaniacs offers
thousands of figures that can easily be turned 360 degrees
as well as an option for random poses for ten to ninety seconds.
There's even a free iphone app.
As a stay at home sketching option it's hard to beat
unless you have a live in model.
in which case, good on ya.

busy day

first to the eye doctor
whom i've been seeing for nearly 20 years
who checks to make sure the thing on my retina
hasn't grown. mazel tov to me:
it hasn't grown in twenty years.

metropolitan lobby

then to the metropolitan museum
where i wandered with no goal
which is a terrific way to see the met.
these were some of my favorite things:

the color of the walls had
a lot to do with loving this

fooled ya.

this was on the street and
looked beautiful.
you can see beauty in
after looking at beautiful things
all morning.

at the jewish museum

the jewish museum often offers the unusual and eclectic and the current exhibitions are no exception. if you can't make it to the museum, the website is a terrific resource.

it was opening day at the maira kalman exhibition, an exquisite show of the work of this idiosyncratic artist whose drawings, paintings, books, installations and collections are captivating.

a box of mosses. kalman is a collector of,
seemingly, any and all things.

a branch and a pomegranate.

houdini: art and magic explores the magician's life and his influence to this day. In addition the tools of his trade, the show includes contemporary work by artists inspired by the man and the legend.

the website is exeptionally comprehensive for this show,
offering photos, videos and audio commentary on many of the objects on display.

i was fascinated with the hardware.

happy mardi gras

in honor of the day
i've been scanning
negatives from louisiana.

i participated in a photography workshop
for cajun mardi gras 1997
lead by the wonderful
debbie fleming caffery

but here you'll find no beads, no masks
no gold green and purple.
it was the monochrome landscape
of the bayous and the atchafalaya swamp
that enchanted me.
