many drawings and the tools that made them

drawings of my rocks
more abstract still,
the linear quality of the first six below
the result of these dried grass stems
ive been harvesting.

like thin (but very fragile) bamboo, each lasts
for no more than a drawing or two
and toward the end they shred.
even that
is a revelation on the page.

then there are the ones using my fave drawing tool - the general's sketch and wash pencil. draws like a soft, dark graphite but responds to water like a dream... these, too, get used up quickly. sometimes i use them with ink and ink wash.

straight from damp and chilly/warm and humid battery park city

and a rocks-ish abstraction

drawing outside

my first saturday back at battery park city,
happy among the rocks.
first in sketch and wash pencil - perhaps my favorite medium
and then in pen/brush/ink.

drawing outside

at battery park city on wednesdays and saturdays i've been playing with line and wash - pencil, ink, hard, soft, wishy washy, strong. the usual suspects: rocks, shadows, leaves, shadows.

i dont know quite what to make of that anomalous one, the black and white sort of yin/yang shapes. it started linear then washy and i didn't like where it went so i went somewhere else.

the very last drawing is charcoal and was made at bryant park at a new, free, outdoor art venue called artcart.

the offerings are varied - hemp paper pads, colored pencils, charcoal, glue, buttons, zippers (?) old vinyl 78s (!!)
